FAQ - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How ARE THE lash extensions APPLIED?

Applying quality lash extensions requires experience and extensive training as we are dealing with your precious eyes!

The extensions are applied with medical grade adhesive to each natural lash and does not touch your skin.

With precision, each lash is isolated to ensure that no two lashes are stuck together. With more time in your appointment, more extensions can be applied.

This is detailed work, so if you would like a fuller look, please book an appointment that allows more time.

Do Eyelash Extensions damage the natural lashes?

No damage will occur to your natural lashes at Eyes Of Eden. When extensions are expertly applied by a well-trained Lash Artist they know the importance of protecting the delicate natural lashes.  This includes meticulous isolation and separation so that each natural lash can grow out during the growth cycle.

Is there ongoing maintenance required for Lash Extensions?

Yes. Maintenance of your lash extensions is an Infill every 2-4 weeks. This is required to maintain full, beautiful, healthy lashes. Your extensions grow out and need to be manually removed and replaced, as well as any lashes that have become loose.  After 4 weeks the lashes have grown and removal and a new set may be required.  If you’re unsure, please ask your Lash Artist for advice on how much time to book.

Does getting eyelash extensions hurt?

No. Eyelash Extensions applied at Eyes Of Eden do not hurt, they’re safe, comfortable, light and never touch the skin.  Lash extensions are applied with care taken to apply the correct weight per natural lash so that no strain is put on them. Do not pick or fiddle with them to irritate your eyes or get oils from your fingers onto the lashes. As they naturally grow out the root is slightly weighed down and they can twist or turn, so brush into place until it falls out naturally. Maintenance is required and you will need to make an appointment for an Infill.

WHAT should avoid when I have lash extensions?

In order to protect your beauty investment, here are some things to do and to avoid.

AVOID WATERPROOF MAKEUP Cleanse your lashes daily to endure no debris builds up in your lash line. This can cause the adhesive bonds to and cause early lash loss. Cleansing your lashes daily promotes hygiene for your eyes and prevents bacteria growth which can can result in eye infections like Blepharitis and Demodex (lash mites).

AVOID TOUCHING rubbing, picking with your fingers, this will cause damage to the follicle and adhesive bonds. Picking at your extension can result in premature lash loss looking like bald patches until your new baby lashes grow.

Extensions grow out during your lash growth cycle and and you may be tempted to touch them. Use your lash brush to neaten your lashes and book infills 2-3 weekly.

AVOID LINT FROM TOWELS OR COTTON - Avoid lint or cotton fibres getting caught in your lashes. Use a lint-free microfibre cloth/towel on your lashes to avoid catching cotton fibres in your extensions. Lint-free towel are available to purchase in salon.

AVOID HIGH HEAT - Keep your face far away as you open the oven door so the heat doesn’t blast towards your face.

OVEN, FLAMES, SAUNAS, STEAM High heat may effect longevity and break down the adhesive bonds. A flame, like a lighter too close to your face can singe the tips of your extensions. E

DAILY CLEANSING Ensure to cleanse your lashes with lash shampoo to washing away sweat and sebaceous secretions for long lasting lashes. Lash shampoo is available to purchase in salon,

WILL MY LASHES FALL OUT?

Yes. Our natural lashes have a growth cycle, they grow and shed in phases. GROW - REST - SHED - REGROW.

LASH SHEDDING

Just like the hair on our heads, eyelashes and eyebrows go through similar growth cycles. Eyelashes are constantly growing and shedding. Lash loss is a normal part of your eyelash growth cycle. Our natural lashes have a lifespan of roughly 6 weeks. The upper lid has 90-160 lashes. We shed 2-6 lashes per eye per day, on average. Each time you have your lash extension filled or your lashes lifted, the longevity will partly be determined by the phase of your lash cycle.

Anagen: Healthy growing baby lashes.

Catagen: Growth slows and lasts up to around 21 days

Telogen: Resting phase, finished growing with a new hair waiting to take its place.

Average Shedding at 2-3 lashes a day:

1 week - 21 lashes

2 weeks = 42 lashes

3 weeks = 63 lashes

SEASONAL SHED & LASH LOSS

Shedding increases during Autumn and Spring. You may need to get infills more frequently or expect your lashes to be not quite as full as usual. Within one to two cycles, this will right itself.

During the growth cycle, optimal fullness may be not be achieved when there are a lot of baby lashes growing. You may choose to book your infill earlier if you like a full-look.

In a healthy lash line you have new hair (baby lashes) growing all the time. Baby lashes grow fast and should be left to grow without an extension applied, your lash artist may recommend you have a quick touch up infill at 7 to 10 days to apply extensions to get your lashes looking full again.

Are there any reasons for faster lash fallout than usual?

Yes. Some retention issues may come from some things we don’t know about or think of.

For optimal longevity and hygiene, your lashes need to be cleansed daily with lash-friendly cleanser. Clean lash extensions last longer because you have washed away all debris sitting in the lash line that can break down the adhesive.

Other things that may cause lash loss;

Do you sleep on your face? Rubbing your eyes on the pillow at night can encourage your natural lashes to shed or break the bonds of the extensions with friction.

Waterproof or stay-on makeup around the eyes can transfer to the extensions and become very sticky and difficulty to remove from the extensions. It’s important to keep the extensions clean or risk faster lash loss.

CLEANSE YOUR LASH EXTENSIONS

Remove makeup around the eyes, then cleanse your lashes

Eye drops may contain ingredients that will effect the adhesive, try to cleanse your lashes as soon as possible after applying eye drops.

Crying - tears contains salt, fatty oils and proteins among other things. try to cleanse your lashes as soon as possible after

Swimming in pools with chlorine/magnesium or the ocean? Rinse with fresh water and cleanse your lashes as soon as possible.

Hormones can affect lash retention due to changes in pH levels of the skin and excess oil production. Slippery lashes do not allow the extensions to adhere properly so remember to keep your lashes clean daily.

Thyroid condition can cause hair loss - including scalp, brows and lashes.

Surgery and the after effects of Anaesthetic can cause the pH levels to go out of balance for a couple of months. Be aware that you may need to come for infill appointments more frequently, approx. every 7-10 days or have a break from your extensions till the pH settles back to normal.

Are Lash Mites real?

Yes. Demodex brevis is a type of mite that lives in the oil glands of human hair follicles. Cleanse your lashes daily to avoid these microscopic critters breeding, which can cause infection and lash loss. If they can feed, they breed! Debris, like sebum, is food for the mites. Use a cleansing brush to get the lash shampoo between the lash hairs. Rinse with water.

If I am pregnant, can I still get my lashes done?

For pregnant clients we have options to make you comfortable. Cushions and more cushions! If you cannot lay down for very long, it’s recommended that you book shorter appointments more frequently. If you need to lay on your side, we can do one eye at a time.
